Abstract

Theoretical frameworks in AI governance often focus on global contexts but neglect specific African societal implications, especially those shaped by colonial legacies and contemporary socio-economic conditions. Theoretical synthesis grounded in existing literature on AI ethics and governance studies, with an emphasis on interdisciplinary approaches including political science, sociology, and philosophy. This framework underscores the necessity of culturally sensitive governance strategies to address both technical and socio-political challenges in implementing trustworthy AI systems in African settings. Recommendations include prioritising stakeholder engagement, especially indigenous communities, in policy development processes; fostering a culture of data ethics within governmental institutions;
