Abstract

This study explores the ethics and governance of AI in African societies with a specific focus on Mali. The study employs participatory action research methods involving community consultations and workshops across different regions of Mali. Participants expressed significant concern over privacy issues and lack of transparency in AI applications within their societies. AI development should prioritise ethical considerations to ensure societal acceptance and participation. Policy makers are advised to incorporate community input into AI governance frameworks and enhance data protection mechanisms.
