Abstract

Economic empowerment of female agricultural cooperatives in Mozambique has been a critical area for research and policy development within African Studies. Qualitative data collection methods were employed, including semi-structured interviews, focus group discussions, and document review from a sample of cooperatives across different regions of Mozambique. A significant theme emerged regarding the cooperative's ability to negotiate better prices for agricultural products with external buyers, increasing their overall income by an average of 20% over the study period. The findings underscore the efficacy of female-led cooperatives in enhancing economic resilience and empowering rural communities in Mozambique. Policy recommendations include strengthening financial support mechanisms for cooperative initiatives and promoting collaboration between cooperatives to achieve economies of scale.
