Abstract

Waste management in Lagos urban centers is a critical issue that affects environmental health and public safety. The inefficiencies in current waste disposal systems lead to pollution and resource depletion. A mixed-methods approach combining quantitative survey data (n=500) and qualitative interviews (n=20) was employed. Data were analysed using a regression analysis model to assess the impact of policy interventions. The study revealed that waste diversion from landfills has increased by 15% in urban centers where recycling programmes have been implemented, with a confidence interval of ±3 percentage points. Policy implementation appears effective in promoting waste management improvements. However, continued monitoring and adjustments are necessary to sustain these gains. Enhanced community engagement is recommended as an additional strategy for increasing waste diversion rates. Future research should focus on the economic impact of recycling programmes.
