Abstract

The Zambian industry faces significant environmental challenges due to pollution from various sources such as industrial effluents and vehicular emissions. A mixed-method approach was employed, combining case studies with quantitative analysis of pollutant emission data from selected industries. An empirical model estimated that reducing sulfur dioxide emissions by 20% could lead to a $15 million annual reduction in health costs associated with air pollution. The findings suggest that targeted interventions, including the adoption of cleaner production technologies and improved waste management practices, can significantly improve environmental quality in Zambia. Industry stakeholders are encouraged to implement these innovations to comply with international environmental standards and enhance sustainability.
