Urbanization, Informal Settlements, and Social Welfare in Côte d'Ivoire: A Comparative Study

Abstract
Urbanization in Côte d'Ivoire has transformed informal settlements into significant urban areas. However, these regions often lack adequate social welfare services. A comparative analysis approach was employed, incorporating data from government reports, interviews with community leaders, and surveys conducted among residents. Research revealed that informal settlement areas receive less than 50% of the social welfare services provided in formal settlements, highlighting significant disparities. The findings underscore the critical need for targeted interventions to improve access to essential social services in informal urban settings. Policy makers should prioritise implementing comprehensive social welfare programmes tailored specifically for informal settlement areas to address these inequalities.
