Abstract
Historical foundations of governance in Malawi have been shaped by colonial legacies and subsequent political developments. A qualitative analysis of archival materials and secondary data sources to trace the evolution of governance structures in Malawi. Significant disparities in land tenure systems have persisted since colonial times, affecting resource allocation and social equity. The persistence of historical inequalities has constrained effective contemporary policy interventions aimed at equitable development. Recommendation for a comprehensive review of existing laws related to land tenure to promote inclusive governance practices.
