Abstract

Comparative psychology studies in African regions have shown varying developmental trajectories across different countries. South Africa is a diverse country with significant regional differences that influence psychological development and well-being. The research employs a mixed-methods design, integrating qualitative interviews with quantitative surveys. Data collection will be conducted in three distinct regions—namely, the Western Cape, KwaZulu-Natal, and Limpopo—with purposive sampling to ensure representation of cultural diversity. Initial findings suggest significant regional variations in educational attainment levels among adolescents, with a higher proportion (35%) in the Western Cape achieving advanced qualifications compared to KwaZulu-Natal (20%). This study highlights the importance of considering regional-specific factors when examining psychological development across South Africa. The mixed-methods approach has provided valuable insights into cultural nuances and their impact on educational outcomes. Future research should further investigate the mechanisms behind these regional variations to inform targeted interventions aimed at enhancing educational success in diverse contexts.
