Abstract

The healthcare landscape in Ethiopia is characterized by a significant reliance on district hospitals for primary care services. A comprehensive search strategy was employed to identify relevant studies. Studies were evaluated based on their adherence to quasi-experimental design principles and the measurement of yield improvement metrics such as patient throughput or treatment efficacy. The analysis revealed a mixed pattern in the use of quasi-experimental designs across different district hospitals, with some showing significant improvements in service delivery efficiency. While certain districts demonstrated notable advancements, others exhibited challenges that require further investigation and intervention strategies. District hospital managers should consider implementing standardised quality improvement programmes to enhance system performance and patient outcomes. district hospitals, yield improvement, quasi-experimental design, healthcare systems, Ethiopia Treatment effect was estimated with $\text{logit}(p_i)=\beta_0+\beta^\top X_i$, and uncertainty reported using confidence-interval based inference.
