Abstract
This study explores economic empowerment strategies among ethnic minority women in Northern Ghana, focusing on their engagement with community-based development programmes aimed at reducing poverty. Data collection involved survey instruments administered through focus group discussions (FGDs) with women from targeted communities in Northern Ghana, supplemented by secondary administrative records. The econometric analysis revealed a significant positive correlation between participation in development programmes and improved household income levels among ethnic minority women, with an average increase of 20% after two years of engagement. Community-based development programmes effectively contribute to economic empowerment for ethnic minority women in Northern Ghana. Future research should focus on scaling up successful models and addressing challenges related to programme sustainability. Programme designers should prioritise community participation, provide continuous support, and integrate gender-sensitive approaches to enhance long-term impact. Policy makers are encouraged to allocate resources and advocate for such initiatives.
