Abstract

Forensic psychology is a specialized field within psychology that applies psychological theories and techniques to legal issues, particularly in criminal cases. In Nigeria, forensic psychologists often work with law enforcement agencies, courts, and correctional facilities to assess individuals involved in criminal proceedings. The analysis is based on a review of relevant literature, including case studies and empirical research conducted in Nigeria and other African countries where similar socio-cultural conditions exist. Forensic psychologists in Nigeria can leverage these insights to better understand the psychological profiles of criminal individuals, aiding in more effective interventions and legal proceedings. Future research should focus on longitudinal studies to track the development of psychological factors over time. Additionally, training programmes for forensic psychologists should incorporate cultural sensitivity and socio-economic considerations.
