Abstract

Mobile agriculture market data services are increasingly being used to provide farmers with real-time information on crop prices, weather forecasts, and market trends, aiming to enhance their decision-making processes and income stability. A qualitative research approach was employed, involving semi-structured interviews with a purposive sample of smallholder farmers who use such services. Data collection focused on eliciting insights into the perceived benefits or challenges associated with using mobile agriculture market data. Farmers reported an average increase in income stability by approximately 15% due to better informed decisions, though variability was observed based on farm size and specific service offerings. Mobile agriculture market data services have a positive but variable impact on smallholder farmers' income stability in Lagos, Nigeria. Further research is needed to tailor these services more effectively to different farming contexts. Service providers should consider expanding their offerings to include additional advisory services and target smaller-scale farmers who may not fully benefit from existing packages.
