Abstract

Youth leadership programmes have been implemented in various cities of Mozambique to promote civic engagement and behaviour change among young people. A mixed-method approach was employed, including pre- and post-programme surveys, focus group discussions, and participant observation to assess changes in civic behaviour among youth participants. The study found that the programmes significantly increased youths' engagement with local governance structures by an average of 25% compared to baseline measures. While initial programme outcomes were promising, further research is needed to understand long-term sustainability and broader impacts on civic behaviour in Mozambique cities. Future research should focus on enhancing community support systems for sustained participation in youth-led initiatives.
