Abstract

Forensic psychology in Nigeria focuses on understanding criminal behaviour through psychological insights. A qualitative review of existing literature from forensic psychologists and criminologists. Findings indicate a significant proportion (45%) of Nigerian criminals exhibit symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder, highlighting the need for trauma-informed interventions in prisons. The findings underscore the importance of integrating psychological support into Nigeria's criminal justice system to enhance rehabilitation and reduce recidivism. Implementation of a trauma-focused therapy programme within Nigerian prisons to address mental health issues among inmates, thereby fostering a more humane and effective correctional environment.
