Abstract

Business operations in conflict-affected regions such as Mozambique's conflict zones present unique ethical challenges. A qualitative study employing semi-structured interviews with business practitioners and stakeholders to uncover the complexities of ethical decision-making under challenging conditions. Participants reported experiencing significant moral distress regarding resource allocation and community engagement, with a notable theme around balancing profit maximization with social responsibility. The findings underscore the need for robust ethical frameworks tailored to conflict zones that integrate local cultural values and economic realities. Businesses should develop comprehensive codes of conduct aligned with international best practices but also culturally sensitive to the specific contexts in which they operate.
