Policy Implications for Business in Niger: An Analytical Framework

Abstract

Niger is a West African country facing significant socio-economic challenges, including high unemployment rates and limited access to formal financial services. A mixed-methods approach combining qualitative interviews with business owners and quantitative analysis of industry data. Businesses often face bureaucratic hurdles, particularly in obtaining permits and accessing funding. There is a significant gap in the availability of financial products tailored to small and medium enterprises (SMEs). The regulatory environment in Niger can be improved to support business growth by addressing these identified gaps. Implementing streamlined permit processes, enhancing access to finance through targeted government programmes, and promoting digital financial services are recommended solutions.
