Abstract

In Nigeria, post-abortion legalization has led to significant changes in maternal health policies aimed at improving outcomes. A mixed-methods approach including surveys and qualitative interviews was employed across six urban centers, with data analysed using descriptive statistics and thematic analysis. Pre-education programmes showed a modest improvement in knowledge about post-abortion care (35% increase), while post-education initiatives resulted in substantial health behaviour changes among participants (60% adherence to recommended guidelines). The findings suggest that comprehensive educational interventions are crucial for effective policy implementation and positive health outcomes. Urban centers should prioritise ongoing education programmes alongside legal reforms to maximise maternal health improvements post-abortion legalization. Maternal Health, Abortion Legalization, Urban Centers, Nigeria Treatment effect was estimated with $\text{logit}(p_i)=\beta_0+\beta^\top X_i$, and uncertainty reported using confidence-interval based inference.
