Abstract

This replication study revisits and evaluates a previous intervention model aimed at enhancing livestock production in rural northern Tanzania through community-based animal health services. The study employs mixed-methods approach including quantitative surveys (n=150) and qualitative interviews (n=20), supplemented by a cost-benefit analysis. Data collection covers pre-implementation and post-intervention periods to assess changes in livestock health and productivity. A significant improvement in animal health was observed, with a 34% reduction in reported disease incidence among participating farms compared to baseline ($p < 0.05$, 95% CI: -28%, -40%). The replication study confirms the original model’s effectiveness but highlights areas for improvement such as service continuity and community engagement strategies. Enhanced training programmes for community health workers are recommended to sustain service quality, alongside increased financial support for veterinary services.
