Enhancing Detection Rates and Adherence Metrics in Adolescent TB Screening Programmes: A Community-Based Approach in South African Cities

Abstract

Adolescent tuberculosis (TB) screening programmes in South African cities have been established to improve early detection and treatment adherence. A mixed-methods design will be employed, integrating quantitative surveys with qualitative interviews to assess programme effectiveness and participant experiences. In preliminary data analysis, there was an 18% increase in TB detection rates after the implementation of community-based screening compared to baseline levels (95% CI: 12-24%). The study aims to contribute evidence on effective adolescent TB screening strategies tailored for urban settings. Programmes should prioritise continuous monitoring and feedback loops to optimise adherence metrics and programme sustainability.
