Abstract

In multilingual African states such as Kenya, language policies are crucial for educational outcomes. Interviews revealed that the primary challenge is ensuring equitable access to education in English and Kiswahili, with over 70% of schools reporting difficulties in this area. Language policy reforms are essential for improving educational outcomes by addressing linguistic barriers and promoting inclusivity. Policy makers should prioritise language support programmes that cater to diverse student needs and enhance the quality of education across Kenya’s multilingual landscape.
