Abstract

Urbanization in Cameroon has accelerated rapidly, leading to significant challenges such as inadequate social welfare services in informal settlements. A survey research method was employed, involving 500 respondents from selected informal settlement areas across Cameroon. Data collection utilised structured questionnaires and interviews. The findings indicate a significant disparity in social welfare services provision among the surveyed populations, with only 38% of residents reporting adequate access to essential healthcare services. Informal settlements in Cameroon face substantial challenges in accessing basic social welfare services, necessitating targeted policy interventions and community engagement strategies. Policy makers should prioritise the development of comprehensive social welfare programmes tailored for informal settlement populations. Increased public-private partnerships are also recommended to address service delivery gaps.
