Abstract

Afrofuturism is a cultural and intellectual movement that explores alternative visions of the future for Africa and its diasporas. In Tanzania, scholars have begun to use Afrofuturism as a lens to examine societal transformations and potential futures. The research employs a qualitative comparative analysis of selected Afrofuturistic texts from Tanzania and other African countries. Data is sourced from academic publications, interviews with scholars, and online forums dedicated to Afrofuturism. Common themes in Tanzanian Afrofuturist discourse include the integration of traditional practices with modern technologies for economic growth, the role of diaspora communities in national development, and the importance of environmental stewardship. These themes are particularly salient given Tanzania's diverse cultural landscape and socio-economic challenges. Afrofuturism offers a valuable framework for envisioning Tanzanian futures by highlighting intergenerational continuities and innovations that can foster sustainable development. Policy makers should consider incorporating Afrofuturistic insights into national planning to address current and anticipate future societal challenges. Educators could integrate Afrofuturist perspectives in curricula to promote critical thinking about the future.
