Land Reform Impacts in Post-Ethiopian Occupation Somalia: An Action Research Perspective
Abstract
Post-Ethiopian occupation Somalia has faced significant socio-economic challenges, with land reform being a critical area of focus for restoring livelihoods and stability. An action research methodology was employed, involving semi-structured interviews with 50 community leaders and focus group discussions with 30 households across Mogadishu and Hargeisa. Data collected included qualitative insights into land use patterns, socio-economic benefits, and challenges. A notable trend emerged where approximately 60% of respondents reported increased agricultural productivity following the implementation of land reforms, indicating improved access to resources for local farmers. The findings suggest that comprehensive land reform initiatives can enhance economic stability and social harmony in post-occupation Somalia by addressing critical resource management issues. Policy makers should prioritise equitable distribution of land rights and sustainable agricultural practices as key components of future reforms, alongside strengthening community engagement mechanisms.
