Human Rights Violations in Niger: The Human Cost of Resource Extraction Projects

Abstract
Niger's diverse resource wealth has attracted significant foreign investment in extractive industries over the past decade. A qualitative approach was employed to analyse interviews with affected community members and legal documents from relevant organizations. Resource extraction projects have exacerbated existing social tensions, particularly around access to resources essential for daily livelihoods. Strengthened legal frameworks and community engagement mechanisms are necessary to mitigate human rights abuses associated with resource extraction in Niger.
