Urban Imaginaries in Côte d'Ivoire: A Comparative Study of Contemporary African Literature and Urban Life,
Abstract
Côte d'Ivoire's urban spaces have been a site of significant cultural production, with contemporary African literature playing a crucial role in shaping perceptions and representations. The research employs qualitative content analysis to evaluate selected literary texts from the period -, focusing on themes of migration, identity, and social change within urban contexts. Specifically, one prominent theme identified in the literature under scrutiny is the tension between traditional values and modern urbanization, particularly evident in narratives exploring generational conflict and cultural preservation efforts. The comparative analysis reveals how literary works reflect and shape public perceptions of urban life in Côte d'Ivoire, highlighting nuanced views on identity and social cohesion. Further research should investigate the intersection between literature and policy to understand better how urban development strategies can engage local communities more effectively.
