Abstract

Water scarcity in the Nile Basin of Tanzania is a critical issue affecting agricultural productivity, health outcomes, and socio-economic stability. A mixed-methods approach was employed, including a structured survey questionnaire administered to 500 randomly selected households across three Nile Basin districts in Tanzania. Focus group discussions were also conducted to gather qualitative insights. The survey revealed that approximately 60% of respondents reported experiencing water scarcity affecting their daily activities and livelihoods, with significant variations observed between rural (70%) and urban (50%) areas. This study underscores the urgent need for collaborative water management initiatives to address perceived conflicts arising from water scarcity in the Nile Basin of Tanzania. Policy recommendations include the implementation of community-based water resource management programmes, equitable distribution mechanisms, and improved access to agricultural technologies that are resilient to drought conditions.
