Public Health Education Workshops and Cholera Control in Urban Senegalese Communities: A Review from an African Perspective
Abstract
Public health education workshops have been used as a strategy to reduce cholera transmission rates in various urban settings worldwide. A comprehensive literature review was conducted using databases such as PubMed and Google Scholar, with an emphasis on articles published within the last decade that discuss public health education interventions for cholera control. The findings indicate a significant reduction in cholera transmission rates following workshops, particularly among vulnerable urban populations where access to clean water is limited. Public health education workshops can be an effective strategy for preventing cholera outbreaks in urban areas with specific attention to community engagement and resource distribution strategies. Health authorities should prioritise the implementation of targeted public health education programmes, especially in underserved urban communities. Continuous monitoring and evaluation are essential to sustain these interventions.
