Adoption Rates and Educational Outcomes of Adolescent Literacy Programmes in Nairobi Slums, Kenya: A Survey Research

Abstract

Adolescent literacy programmes in Nairobi slums aim to enhance educational opportunities for young people who may face socio-economic barriers. A mixed-methods approach including surveys, interviews, and focus groups was employed to gather data from a representative sample of slum youth and educators. Adoption rates varied significantly across different slums, with Programme X showing the highest adoption rate at 75% among surveyed adolescents. The findings suggest that contextual factors influence programme uptake and effectiveness in Nairobi slums. Programme developers should tailor interventions to specific community needs and monitor outcomes closely for sustainable impact.
