Rural-to-Urban Migration and Resilience Strategies Among Senegalese Youth Transitioners in Comoros: A Policy Perspective
Abstract
Rural-to-Urban migration among Senegalese youth in Comoros has become a significant demographic phenomenon, driven by economic opportunities and environmental challenges. A mixed-methods approach combining qualitative interviews with focus groups was utilised to gather data from Senegalese youth in Comoros. Senegalese migrants in Comoros predominantly adopt community networks for social support, while formal education remains their top priority for personal development. The integration challenges faced by rural-to-urban migrants necessitate tailored policies that enhance access to formal education and strengthen local community support structures. Policies should prioritise improving educational infrastructure in migrant communities and foster intergenerational mentorship programmes.
