Abstract

Afrofuturism is a contemporary cultural movement that explores African heritage through science fiction, art, and technology, often envisioning alternative futures for Africa. The research employed a combination of semi-structured interviews (\(n=20)\) and an online survey (\(n=350)\), supplemented by archival material. Data were analysed using thematic analysis for qualitative insights, while inferential statistics informed the findings. Participants expressed varied visions for Liberian futures, with themes including technological advancement, environmental sustainability, and social justice. The survey results showed a significant preference (p<0.05) for eco-friendly initiatives over traditional industries. Afrofuturism offers valuable insights into Liberian societal aspirations by integrating diverse perspectives on envisioned futures. Policy makers should consider incorporating Afrofuturist narratives in planning to address contemporary socio-economic challenges and envision sustainable development pathways.
