Abstract

Historical Foundations of Contemporary African Governance in Nigeria explore the roots of current governance challenges within a broader context of African Studies. The research methodology involves a comprehensive review of archival materials, secondary data from scholarly publications, and interviews with contemporary African political scholars. A thematic analysis is employed to identify recurring patterns across the historical corpus. Key themes emerge including colonial administrative structures, traditional authority dynamics, and religious leadership roles that continue to influence governance today, particularly in rural versus urban settings. This study underscores the enduring impact of historical factors on contemporary African governance in Nigeria, highlighting interconnections between past and present. Future research should focus on empirical studies integrating quantitative data with qualitative insights for a more nuanced understanding of current governance dynamics in Nigeria.
