Telemedicine's Impact on Rural Community Health Services Accessibility in Lagos, Nigeria

Telemedicine has emerged as a critical tool for enhancing healthcare access in underserved regions, particularly in rural areas where traditional health services are often limited or inaccessible. The study employs a combination of ethnographic fieldwork and statistical analysis to explore the perceptions and usage patterns of telemedicine among rural communities. Data collection includes surveys, interviews, and observational studies conducted over two years. Telemedicine significantly improved access to healthcare services with a reported increase in patient consultations by 45% compared to traditional methods. The findings underscore the potential of telemedicine as an innovative solution for bridging health service gaps in remote rural areas, though challenges related to infrastructure and digital literacy remain. To maximise the benefits of telemedicine, there is a need for sustained investment in technology infrastructure, training programmes for healthcare providers, and community sensitization campaigns.
