Land Reform and Socio-Economic Transformations in Post-2008 Zambia: An East African Perspective
Abstract
Land reform in post- Zambia has been a focal point of socio-economic transformations in East Africa, impacting agricultural productivity and rural livelihoods. Qualitative research methods were employed, including semi-structured interviews with farmers, focus group discussions, and archival data analysis. The sample was drawn from diverse regions across Zambia. Farmers reported increased access to land but also faced challenges related to tenure security and input costs, highlighting the nuanced socio-economic impacts of reform. The study underscores the complex interplay between policy reforms and local contexts in shaping agricultural landscapes and rural livelihoods in post- Zambia. Policy makers should consider enhancing support structures for farmers to mitigate challenges while ensuring long-term sustainability of land tenure systems.
