E-Food Traceability Systems in African Farmers Markets: A Comparative Study on Combatting Food Loss

Abstract

E-food traceability systems have emerged as a promising tool to reduce food loss in agricultural supply chains. A comparative study design was employed, involving surveys and interviews with market vendors and consumers. Data analysis revealed significant reductions in food loss by up to 30% among participating markets. E-food traceability systems can effectively combat food loss in African farmers markets, reducing economic losses for small-scale producers. Implementing e-traceability systems should be prioritised by government and market authorities to enhance market efficiency and sustainability.
