Abstract

Urban agricultural land use policies in Addis Ababa have been implemented to address food security challenges, particularly amidst rapid urbanization and population growth. Policies were analysed using qualitative data from government documents, interviews with stakeholders, and secondary data from agricultural surveys conducted in Addis Ababa between and . Urban agricultural plots increased by 30% during the study period, contributing to a significant reduction in food imports and enhancing local supply chains. The policies have had a positive impact on improving food security, though challenges remain in terms of sustainable land use management. Further research is recommended to explore long-term sustainability and policy effectiveness over multiple years.
