Abstract

Youth in urban Ethiopia face significant challenges related to identity formation and political engagement. Qualitative interviews were conducted with young people aged 18-35 from various urban centers across Ethiopia. Youth in urban Ethiopia exhibit varied but often intersecting identities based on ethnicity, religion, and socioeconomic status, which shape their political participation levels. Identity diversity within youth groups contributes to a nuanced understanding of their political engagement patterns. Further research should examine the intersectional impacts of identity on urban youth's political behaviour in Ethiopia. Youth Identity, Political Participation, Urban Ethiopia, African Studies
