Quantifying Johannesburg’s Slum Students’ Mental Health Interventions: A Critical Review and Reflection

Abstract
The Johannesburg area in South Africa is home to numerous slums with high concentrations of students facing behavioural issues and mental health challenges. A systematic literature review method was employed to analyse existing studies and reports on the impact of such interventions in slum schools. Despite initial signs of effectiveness, the sustainability and scalability of these interventions require further investigation to address identified barriers. Investment should be prioritised in capacity building for educators and mental health professionals, alongside broader community support initiatives.
