Abstract

Afrofuturism is a relatively new concept in African studies that explores future-oriented narratives about Africa and its diaspora. The study employs participant observation, interviews, and document analysis among young people in urban Senegal who engage with Afrofuturist art and culture. Data collection was conducted from January to June . Participants frequently incorporate elements of Afrofuturism into their artistic expressions, such as digital media and fashion, reflecting a strong desire for innovation while retaining cultural roots. The study underscores the significance of Afrofuturism in Senegalese youth culture as a means to navigate identity challenges and assert African agency in an increasingly globalized world. Further research should focus on how Afrofuturist practices impact broader societal narratives about Africa's future, including policy-making and education curricula.
