African Universities' Role in Knowledge Production and Dissemination in Senegal: An Analytical Perspective

Abstract
The role of African universities in knowledge production and dissemination is a critical area within the field of African studies. In Senegal, there are growing expectations for these institutions to contribute significantly to regional and global academic discourse. The study employs a mixed-methods approach, combining qualitative interviews with university administrators and faculty members with quantitative analysis of publicly available data from the National Institute of Statistics of Senegal. Findings indicate that while there is significant emphasis on traditional disciplines such as agriculture and social sciences, newer fields like renewable energy and digital technologies are emerging areas where universities are investing more resources. The analysis reveals a need for increased investment in research infrastructure and diversification of academic programmes to better align with current global and regional development priorities. Recommendations include the establishment of partnerships between African universities and international institutions, as well as fostering an environment that encourages interdisciplinary collaboration.
