Abstract

Afrofuturism has emerged as a critical lens for examining contemporary African cultural expressions and societal transformations. Qualitative research methods, including semi-structured interviews and thematic analysis, were employed to gather data from local cultural practitioners and community leaders. Data revealed a significant proportion (60%) of Afrofuturist artworks and discourses in Burkina Faso focused on environmental sustainability as an integral theme. The findings underscore the dynamic role of Afrofuturism in articulating visions for sustainable development in African societies, particularly through environmental narratives. Further research should explore how these future-oriented narratives can inform and influence policy-making towards more inclusive and sustainable development strategies.
