Effectiveness of Community-Based Maternal Care Initiatives in Rural Gambia's Post-2007 Periods

Abstract
Community-based maternal care initiatives have been implemented in rural areas of Gambia to address high rates of maternal mortality and morbidity. A survey was conducted using structured questionnaires administered to a stratified sample of rural Gambia women and healthcare providers. Maternal care services were utilised by approximately 65% of surveyed participants, with significant improvements noted in prenatal check-ups (80%) and skilled birth attendance (72%). The findings suggest that community-based maternal care initiatives have positively influenced maternal health practices. Further research should investigate long-term effects and cost-benefit analyses of such interventions.
