Abstract

Precision agriculture technologies have shown promise in increasing crop yields globally, but their impact on rice cultivation in Southwestern Nigeria remains understudied. A qualitative approach was employed, involving interviews with farmers, agronomists, and extension workers. Data collection took place through structured questionnaires and focus group discussions held between January and June each year for three consecutive years. Farmers reported a significant increase in rice yields averaging 15% over the study period when precision agriculture technologies were implemented compared to traditional farming methods. Precision agriculture technologies have demonstrated potential as an effective tool for increasing rice yield in Southwestern Nigeria, though challenges related to technology adoption and training persist. To maximise benefits, policymakers should invest in infrastructure development and educational programmes targeting farmers to facilitate the uptake of these technologies.
