Afrofuturism as a Framework for Visualizing African Futures in Chad

Abstract
Afrofuturism is a contemporary cultural movement that explores African heritage through futuristic perspectives, often incorporating science fiction and technology to envision potential future scenarios for Africa. The research employs qualitative methods including thematic analysis on existing literature and semi-structured interviews with experts and stakeholders who engage with Afrofuturism concepts within the Chad context. Data from these sources are analysed to identify common themes and patterns related to future visions for Chad. A consistent theme identified in the Afrofuturist narratives of Chad is the emphasis on technological advancement as a means to address socio-economic challenges, with a notable direction towards renewable energy solutions and smart city development. Afrofuturism provides valuable insights into how contemporary African societies envision their future through futuristic lenses. This study confirms that Afrofuturist narratives offer nuanced perspectives on potential paths for Chad’s development. Further research should explore the implications of these Afrofuturist visions in policy and practice, as well as investigate how such narratives can be more inclusively integrated into broader African futures studies frameworks.
