Methodological Evaluation of District Hospitals Systems in Senegal: Randomized Field Trial on Adoption Rates

Abstract

District hospitals in Senegal play a crucial role in healthcare delivery for rural populations. A randomized control trial was conducted, with 100 district hospitals randomly assigned to either an intervention group (receiving training on new diagnostic tools) or a control group (no additional training). In the intervention group, adoption rates of the new diagnostic tool reached 85% within six months, while in the control group, only 60% adopted the tool. The randomized field trial demonstrated significant improvements in adoption rates for the new diagnostic tool when compared to standard practice. District health authorities should prioritise training and support for healthcare providers on adopting new diagnostic tools to enhance service delivery effectiveness. Treatment effect was estimated with $\text{logit}(p_i)=\beta_0+\beta^\top X_i$, and uncertainty reported using confidence-interval based inference.
