Mobile Agriculture Extension Services Among Urban Youth in Lagos, Nigeria: A Socio-Economic Analysis
Abstract
Mobile agriculture extension services are increasingly being used to address agricultural knowledge gaps among urban youth in Nigeria. A mixed-methods approach was employed, including structured interviews and focus group discussions with a sample size of 120 urban youths. Urban youths aged between 18-35 showed an overall adoption rate of mobile extension services at 67%, with higher rates among those with secondary education (p < 0.05). The socio-economic dynamics and motivations for adopting these services are complex, indicating the need for tailored educational programmes. Developing culturally relevant content and integrating mobile technology in existing extension networks can enhance service uptake among urban youth. urban youth, Lagos, Nigeria, mobile agriculture extension, adoption rates The empirical specification follows $Y=\beta_0+\beta^\top X+\varepsilon$, and inference is reported with uncertainty-aware statistical criteria.
