Quasi-Experimental Evaluation of District Hospital Systems in Kenya: Methodological Insights into Adoption Rates

Abstract
District hospitals in Kenya play a crucial role in healthcare delivery but face challenges in resource availability and operational efficiency. A mixed-methods approach was employed, combining quantitative data from surveys with qualitative insights through interviews and case studies. The study utilised a propensity score matching method to ensure comparability between districts. Adoption rates for evidence-based medical practices varied significantly across districts, ranging from 30% in rural areas to 65% in urban settings (p < 0.01). The quasi-experimental design provided robust insights into the adoption dynamics of district hospitals, highlighting disparities and offering recommendations for improvement. Policy interventions should prioritise support for underserved districts with tailored training programmes and resource allocation strategies.
