Abstract

Agricultural value chains in Nigeria are critical for integrating smallholder farmers into national and international markets. The study employed a mixed-methods approach including surveys, focus group discussions, and interviews to assess current value chains and identify bottlenecks. Women farmers in the study area reported an average of 15% increase in market access after participating in capacity-building workshops designed for women’s empowerment. The findings support the effectiveness of targeted training programmes in improving market access for women farmers, which can be scaled up to broader regions. Policy makers should prioritise funding and implementation of similar training programmes and establish incentives for value chain actors who promote gender equity.
