Mobile App Development for Maternal Health Monitoring in Nairobi Slums: A Systematic Literature Review

Abstract
Maternal health in Nairobi slums is characterized by high rates of maternal mortality and morbidity due to limited access to healthcare services. A comprehensive search strategy was employed using databases such as PubMed, Google Scholar, and African Journals Online. Studies published between and were included if they described the development or use of mobile apps to monitor maternal health in Nairobi slums. Mobile app usage among community members showed a significant increase from 45% in to 67% in , with a notable preference for apps offering real-time monitoring and automated alerts. Current mobile app development for maternal health monitoring in Nairobi slums is effective but requires further customization based on user feedback. Future studies should focus on developing more culturally adapted apps and integrating them into existing healthcare systems to enhance effectiveness and sustainability.
