Abstract

Rwanda's art history has been predominantly Eurocentric, with little attention given to indigenous perspectives and methodologies. Conducted semi-structured interviews with 20 local artists and scholars in Rwanda. Employed thematic analysis for data interpretation. Indigenous perspectives emerged as a significant theme, influencing the direction of future research methodologies. The study highlights the importance of integrating indigenous voices to redefine art history in Rwanda. Encourage arts institutions and educational programmes to adopt decolonized methods that value local knowledge.
