Translating Across Boundaries: Challenges and Strategies in African Literature for Global Audiences in Burundi
Abstract
Translating African literature into global languages poses unique challenges due to cultural, linguistic, and thematic differences. A qualitative analysis of existing translations and interviews with translators and authors. Effective strategies include collaborating closely with native speakers, maintaining thematic coherence while adapting stylistically, and engaging in continuous feedback loops. Develop training programmes for translators emphasising cultural sensitivity and linguistic precision, alongside partnerships between local and international literary organizations.
